What this site is
Solar & Home Energy Calculators is an independent resource that provides free interactive calculators for solar panels and home energy decisions. We are not a solar installer, a lead-generation company in disguise, or affiliated with any specific brand or product.
What this site is not
We are not a sales funnel. We don't capture your email, sell your information, or follow up with quotes. The calculators are the product — useful in their own right, regardless of whether you ever take any next step.
Our independence
We make money from contextual display advertising and from optional links to solar quote marketplaces (where readers who want quotes can request them after using our tools). Those revenue sources do not influence what our calculators say or what assumptions they use.
Where our data comes from
We rely on public, authoritative sources: the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) for electricity rates, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for solar resource data, the Department of Energy for appliance specifications, and the Internal Revenue Code (as amended by the Inflation Reduction Act) for federal tax credit rates. Every reference data file in our system includes its source citation and last-updated date.
Our editorial principle
Calculators should be honest about their limitations. Every estimate we produce includes a clear disclaimer about what we can and cannot model. We always recommend getting professional quotes for any major investment decision — this site is a starting point, not a final answer.
